How do I know when to appear in court?
You will receive a subpoena telling you the date, time and the court in which you must appear. You may have to ask for time off from work in order to testify. Your employer is required by law to allow you time off for court.
What do I do on the day of the trial?
Take your subpoena with you. Do not bring pocket knives, mace, sharp objects or weapons as you will be required to pass through a security check with metal detectors. Items taken by the Sheriff’s Department will not be returned.
Go to the Courthouse located at 301 East Main in Richmond. Parking is available around the Courthouse.
Inside the Courthouse, go through the metal detector. The Prosecutor’s Office is down a hallway and to your right. The Sheriff’s Deputies at the metal detector can assist you in locating our office.
Check in with our receptionist and show her your subpoena. She can direct you where to go.
